Exhibition w/ Polina Khatsenko in Galerie Koridor (Ústí nad Labem, CZ)
„The exhibition project Receivers of Silence by Polina Khatsenko and Nela Bártová presents a combination of ink drawings and text in a spatial installation. It refers to the theme of communication and sharing intertwined in the artists' works. We understand communication as a hard-to-grasp phenomenon that constantly shapes the development and thinking of each of us. It takes various forms from written text, to non-verbal communication, to communication through digital devices. Objects and signs are given a role as carriers of meaning in the process of communication. We encrypt and symbolize the tangible and the intangible. The media, the transmitters of information, also make "receivers" of ourselves.

So what is our role in the communication process? Who are the other actors in the constant exchange of information? Why do we encrypt them if we then decode them back?
The exhibition The Receivers of Silence thematizes the tools of communication and the process of mediation of messages, whether by purely objective, emotionally uncolored means or in a subjective poetic form. A closer examination of the works of both artists reveals a contrast, with the cold, technicist apparatus standing as a counterpoint to the intimate experiences of the individual.
It is essential to note that technology has increased the efficiency of information exchange in terms of speed, distance and accessibility. An infinite number of digital signals invisibly weave their way through our world, forming networks both literally and figuratively.

Polina Khatsenko's (*1992, FUD studio Time based media) large-scale ink drawings of a parabolic antenna reflect the perception of such a defined reality. In her artistic work, the artist deals with the relationship between space and sound. She primarily uses computer programs to manipulate sound. The works presented in the exhibition reflect the hard-to-reach nature of digitally processed data and allow viewers to reflect on information technology through a lyrical approach to drawing. The chosen technique gives the antenna a character of invisibility.

In the poems of Nela Bártová (*1998, AVU studio ) the existence of a young person searching for values in the contemporary world is reflected. In addition to her literary work, Bártová is an experimental musician and her poems show a feeling for ambient sounds. Elements of collage appear in a cross-section of her work, which she uses in various forms, especially in the combination of media she works with."
